"God's Whole Armor"
Rickey Macklin

About the Book
God's Whole Armor is
about winning the war! Are you a Christian who struggles with making right
choices? Are you accustomed to the "agony of defeat" rather than sweet victory
in your life? If so, God's Whole Armor was written with you in mind.
God's Whole Armor is a book that was written out of my
very own struggles with right and wrong. As a Christian and one brought up in
the church, I understood God's requirements for his people, but at times found
it rather difficult to carry them out. As young as age nine, I can remember
struggling with right and wrong. When I joined the Navy after graduating from
college, I did not realize that God was about to teach me an invaluable lesson
that I would never forget. During my stay in the military, our country was
engaged in the Gulf War. I learn many war skills. As the military taught how to
win wars, God began to teach me how we win spiritual wars. Not only was the Gulf
War a victory for America, but it was also a personal victory for me.
I discovered that we win wars
because of the "5P's principle" I heard someone quote years ago: "Prior
Preparation Prevents Poor Performance." The U.S. is victorious at winning wars
not only because of the latest weaponry and the best training on how to use
them, but because we study our enemies; learning their strengths and
vulnerabilities. I would have to apply these same principles to our enemy, the
devil, to be as victorious and more than a conqueror.
Well, this worked good for me,
but the burden to win wars was not removed because many other Christians I knew
were experiencing this same struggle: how to win the war against the devil.
Thus, this book was birth. This book discusses the following with practical
application:
- Who is our enemy?
- What is in the mind of our enemy?
- When will our enemy attack?
- Where is our enemy located?
- How will our enemy attack?
- Why does our enemy so desperately want to
destroy us?
More importantly, there's an
entire chapter dedicated to discussing the location and or area of battle - The
Mind. I then proceed to the crux of the book and discuss one by one each part of
the Christian's weaponry provided by God. A short prayer is given demonstrating
how to put on and apply each part. The book concludes with a short dialogue
between the devil and a child of God giving at least 16 examples of how to
reverse the attack of the devil and put him on the run every time just like we
did in the "Gulf" and Jesus did in the "Wilderness"! Hallelujah!

Introduction
You must understand that your
fight is not against the devil per se. The Lord Jesus has already made an open
show of him, and he is a defeated foe. Your battle is against his wiles, tricks,
deceptions, illusions, concealment of the truth, and the evil spirits that he
sends on assignment to your life. Say -- you’ve been around for a long time and
you know every trick in the book... Well, my dear friend, I submit to you that
Satan has been around much longer. He has 6,000 years of experience under his
belt. He’s been studying mankind from the Garden of Eden - through the
crucifixion of Jesus - to our present age. He knows every trick in the book as
it relates to pulling man off course. Don’t fool yourself! Listen to Paul’s
words to the Corinthians who thought they had arrived at a specific mark in
life.
I Corinthians 10:12
12 - Wherefore let him that thinketh he
standeth take heed lest he fall.
So then, Satan operates
undisturbed by your ideas of spiritual awareness - regardless of your title or
age. He focuses most of his attention on your mind. It is his desire to allure
you to question your identity. You see, if he can get you to question your
identity, then he can and will use this to cause you to forfeit the inheritance
that the Lord Jesus has made available to you. However, the Bible says that the
devil is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44). We cannot continue to succumb
to the devil’s lies. We must walk in the truth of whom God has called us and by
faith in Him, allowing Him to bring us to His expected end. These two principles
of spiritual warfare demands us to study the Word of God to discover who we are
and what God has predestined us to become in Him.
The word of God tells us in
Hosea 4:6 that God’s people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge. This does
away with the old adage, "what you don’t know, won’t hurt you". The truth of the
matter is "what you don’t know, could kill you". We must understand that there
is a constant battle going on and that as Christians, we cannot just sit back
and expect to gain the victory. Please, keep this principle in mind: There
can be no victory without confrontation. As my Late Bishop, James R. Peebles
Sr., would say, "That which you compromise you are going to lose" and "if you
don’t stand for what’s right, you will fall for anything."
Part II: Excerpt from
Breastplate of Righteousness
This leads me to the next
point; "our standing." Are we in right standing with Him? Are we faithful to
Him? Are we obedient to Him? This is where I believe the devil deceives so many
of God’s people. How? Because it is true that we often fail in our commitment to
him either through omission or commission. As a result thereof, the believers
are lead to believe that they are just reckless, messed up, proned to sin,
helpless, and unworthy creatures. Well this is a lie from the father of lies
himself. Yes God requires that we walk upright before him. He requires that we
live holy and sanctified lives unto him. If however we should fail one day to
meet up to his standards, he doesn’t reverse the curse over your life. He does
not send Jesus back to the cross, remove the thorny crown, dry up his blood, and
stay the Roman legionnaires’ hand from whipping him with 39 lashes. It would
take all of that to make you a sinner again. Unless of course, you willingly
forfeit the whole thing by turning your back on him permanently. At that point
you will have nullified the efficacy of the cross on your behalf. There would
then remain no more sacrifice for your sin. The bottom line here is - God
requires that we walk upright before him but does not kick you out of the family
if you just happen to make a mistake. Here’s a practical example that I think
will bring this point on home. Let’s say, there is a father who has a son who
has become very rebellious. The son can no longer tolerate the rules that his
father has set in the home so he leaves. My question to you is - although they
have an estranged relationship with no communion and no fellowship - is he still
his son? Your answer of course is yes. The reason why is because their
relationship is not predicated upon his son’s action but solely upon the blood.
So it is with us. Our transition from sinner to saint was based solely on the
blood of Jesus Christ. Afterwhich, God laid out his requirements in which we
find our responsibility.
Psalm 84:11
For the Lord God is a sun
and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold
from them that walk uprightly.
